Scalp eczema

Scalp eczema is very inconvenient in everyday life because it is associated with intense scratching sessions. The flakes can be found on clothing and give the person a "dirty" and neglected appearance.

What is scalp eczema?

People with eczema plaques on the body sometimes complain that they also have eczema on their head. The symptoms of scalp eczema described by these patients are mainly itching, plaques on the scalp, scabbing and even bleeding from scratching.

Scalp eczema: not to be confused

The scalp is not one of the typical locations for atopic dermatitis, so it may be problematic to talk about scalp atopic dermatitis or hair eczema.

On the other hand, other diseases similar to eczema often occur in the hair follicles. These scalp disorders are associated with itching and severe dandruff: this is particularly the case with psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis . A person may have one or more skin diseases. Scalp eczema may be related to a disease other than eczema, talk to your physician.

Hair eczema can also be the result of an allergy to a hair product, especially dyes.

What is the best treatment for scalp eczema?

Most of the time, hair eczema treatment is based on the same products used to treat psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis in the hair. These are mainly lotions and shampoos, available with or without a prescription.

Preventing scalp eczema means above all showing common sense: use gentle shampoos between treatments, always rinse well, dry gently (blow-dry not too close, not too hot, not too long), style with a soft brush.
