A beautiful story

It all began in the 1930s, long before the second World War...The journey started with Albert Ducray, the son of a dermatologist, when he discovered the mediocre quality of shampoos available in hairdressing salons. This was a time when shampoos were "made" using powdered soap, to be dissolved in water before washing. They used alkaline ingredients, which damaged hair and made it look dull. Albert Ducray went on to design the first dermo-cosmetic shampoos and launched them on the market under the brand Lik' SAVONS. Ducray used "indications" as a guide and created shampoos made from Alsatian chamomile extract for blond hair, panama extract (oily hair), eggs (normal hair), and pine tar. These new products were both high-quality, and original to use. Ready-to-use shampoos had just appeared on the market, and "dermo-cosmetic" products were now able to take off. The product offering expanded as more and more products were created for both hair and skin, to meet everyone's expectations and needs, from health professionals to consumers. However, DUCRAY didn't stop there. The year 1985 marked the exploration of a new market: the skin care market and the launch of Ictyane, the 1st hydrating cream to compensate for the drying effects of acne treatments. This popular cream, the N°1 Hydrating cream for face and body sold in pharmacies*, has combined a highly-hydrating formula with a pleasant texture and unmatched fragrance for over 25 years. DUCRAY Dermatological Laboratories currently offer more than 60 products to care for skin, scalp and hair.

A pioneer's vocation

After "inventing" ready-to-use and treatment shampoos, Albert Ducray called his business "hair dermo-cosmetology".

He was quite a visionary and understood the need to cater his products to pharmacies rather than to supermarkets.
A permanent partnership with pharmacies now allows us to continue along this path.
DUCRAY partners with the Pierre Fabre Center for Dermatological and Cosmetological Research of course, but also above all they partner with health professionals, specialized doctors and pharmacists.
DUCRAY Dermatological Laboratories dedicate all their research to the health and beauty of hair and skin.

A scientific approach

DUCRAY Dermatological Laboratories base their techniques on a pragmatic scientific approach.

One of their main concerns is to gain perfect understanding of the hair and skin mechanisms linked to the identified problems.
A permanent scientific watch in partnership with the Pierre Fabre Research Center and top specialists in the field gives DUCRAY Dermatological Laboratories the ability to find the best adapted solution to consumers' hair or skin needs.

Benchmark active ingredients

Our scientific expertise allows us to add one or more rigorously selected active ingredients which make the products more "relevant" to consumers through efficacy and good tolerance.
Some of our benchmark actives are: Vaseline/glycerin (Ictyane), Azeleic acid (Melascreen), Ciclopiroxolamine-pyrithione zinc (Squanorm), Kertyol (Kertyol PSO), Ferrous sulfate (Anacaps)...
and we also have original actives (Pierre Fabre Botanical Expertise): Hydroxydecine (Ictyane HD), Sabal serrulata (Sabal, Squanorm), Ruscus (Anaphase), Myrtacine (Keracnyl)
...and even actives at the forefront of innovation: ...Tetrapeptide (Neoptide), Tréhalose (Ictyane)

Clinical expertise

All products are the result of a systematic rigorous program for developing active ingredients, but which would not have been developed without clinical evaluation of the finished product. Efficacy and tolerance are always validated by clinical studies under dermatological supervision, in order to provide perfectly adapted products.
The resulting formula is always set according to the strictest standards, ensuring constant quality with optimal efficacy and tolerance.

Experience in galenics

This experience resulted from our pharmaceutical tradition which, combined with our cosmetic expertise, helped optimize formula efficacy.

In this way, DUCRAY Dermatological Laboratories place special emphasis on ensuring the highest levels of comfort for applying products, through pleasant textures. Because cosmetic appeal is high on our list of priorities, we have acquired true expertise in galenics over time, proof of which can be found in our emblematic (Extra Gentle) or even "cult" fragrances (Ictyane)

International exposure

We want to be as close as possible to all our consumers.

This is why we've developed an active presence in over 60 countries.
Proximity and responsiveness allows us to find the best solution, no matter the problem, no matter the skin or hair type.

Solid partnerships

Partnerships with health professionals

DUCRAY Dermatological Laboratories have always been the loyal partner of health professionals, dermatologists, general practitioners and pharmacists, offering:
  • products for initial treatment of hair and skin problems,
  • products to accompany medical prescriptions,
  • products to maintain healthy hair and skin.
Partnership with the Zanbal company as a continuation of the Extra Gentle design program. Extra Gentle has been committed to respecting the environment for several years.
Ducray Dermatological Laboratories are leading an active eco-design campaign with the aim of minimizing the environmental impact of our "flagship" shampoo, Extra Gentle.
After an analysis of the shampoo's life cycle, DUCRAY Dermatological Laboratories developed a biodegradable formula to intensify product optimization. All this without sacrificing efficacy, preserving the shampoo's hairstyling properties and original fragrance. The formula was reworked with ingredients that facilitate its breakdown.
Extra Gentle is now available in a recyclable capped bottle.
In 2012, Ducray Dermatological Laboratories decided to invest even further in their environmentally responsible campaign centered on Extra Gentle. Thus, by participating in the Zanbal project, we compensate for 100% of the greenhouse gas emissions linked to the production of Extra Gentle.
