Ear psoriasis

Psoriasis can develop on any part of the body. The ears are one of the least well-known locations for psoriasis. On one or both ears, on the lobe or deeper inside the ear or even in the ear canal, anything is possible, and it can quickly become very uncomfortable.

A daily discomfort

Although psoriasis plaques in the ears are very small, they are in a very annoying place, and it can be difficult or even impossible to perform certain common everyday tasks, such as wearing headphones, a headset or earplugs.

For people with hearing problems, wearing hearing aids can also be very problematic.
If plaques are located inside the ear canal, hearing may be reduced due to the build-up of earwax.

The embarrassment caused by ear psoriasis should be taken into account, especially if the patient’s hair is not long enough to cover their ears. People who do not have psoriasis may think it is caused by a lack of hygiene or an infection. Patient with psoriasis in the ears sometimes scratch until their ears bleed, causing the scales to fall onto their shoulders, which is not particularly attractive.

How to take daily care of your ears

Although patients may have psoriasis on their earlobes, they can still wear earrings, but it is advisable to remove them during flare-up periods, so that treatment can be applied correctly (if it is a local treatment) and because it is more comfortable.

You should take care of your ears daily, avoid using cotton swabs, instead simply use a jet of water to clean your ears in the shower, making sure it is neither too hot nor too strong. It is beneficial to use a gentle cleanser such as a cleansing oil or syndet to soften the scales and promote their elimination.
