In most cases, acne diminishes spontaneously towards the age of 18-20 years old. But it could also last for a long time or appear in adults who have never suffered from it in their teen years.

The so-called "adult" acne is the result of many factors such as unsuitable treatments, stress, birth-control, menstruation, pregnancy, etc. Adult acne is different from teen acne by the predominance of red spots over blackheads. Furthermore, it is a lot more present on the lower part of a woman's face, and on a man's back.
