A poorly balanced diet can cause or worsen hair loss

Iron deficiency can cause hair loss.

Pregnancy, heavy periods or insufficient iron intake can be the cause.

Iron deficiency is a classic cause of hair loss in women because of regular iron loss during menstrual periods. Blood and hemoglobin are rich in iron.

The most easily absorbed iron available in food is contained in meat and organ meats. Some vegetables are rich in iron (lentils, green beans, lettuce and spinach) but this type of iron is less easily absorbed.

An iron supplement might be necessary in the case of a deficiency.
