Almost 40% of the population has oily hair, which is caused by a malfunction of the sebaceous glands which secrete sebum (oily, natural substance that keeps the hair lubricated and protected against external aggressions). This malfunction results in greasy, heavy hair that is difficult to style.
Sebum secretion depends on androgen hormones such as testosterone. Hyperseborrhea is very often a genetic condition, but can be worsened by other factors (stress, pollution etc.).
