WHAT IS OILY TO COMBINATION SKIN?
This type of skin produces too much and poor-quality sebum. The consequences - shiny skin, dilated pores and sometimes blackheads – can be seen with the naked eye. This excess of sebum, called hyperseborrhea, can lead to acne. Combination skin, on the other hand, combines the problems of oily skin on the forehead, nose and chin (the T-zone) with those of normal or dry skin on the cheeks.Shiny areas of combination to oily skins
There are various causes

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OILY AND COMBINATION SKIN?
Oily skin:
- Oily and shiny areas
- Dull complexion
- Open pores
- Spots, marks, blackheads/whiteheads and wrinkles
- Makeup doesn't stick
Combination skin:
- T-zone (nose, forehead and chin) is oily and contains more sebaceous glands than any other area of the face
- Cheeks tend to be much drier or even scaly in places
- Enlarged pores
- Combines the characteristics of dry and oily skin
- Need to balance sebum and hydration
COMMON MISUNDERSTANDINGS ABOUT OILY SKIN
Dr. Isabelle Gardinal-Galera is here to give you the facts about oily skin.
Poor diet causes oily skin
FALSE - Hyperseborrhea is primarily familial and genetic in origin
It shouldn’t be confused with acne, which is multifactorial. Numerous studies have shown that acne can be promoted by excessive consumption of milk and rapidly absorbed sugars.
Someone with oily skin should therefore pay attention to their diet in order to reduce their risk of developing acne. The links between oily skin and diet, however, are still unclear.
Oily skin always leads to acne
FALSE - Acne is always accompanied by oily skin, but oily skin doesn't necessarily lead to acne
The sebaceous glands are dependent on hormones called androgens. These androgens are present in greater quantities during certain periods of life, particularly at puberty, and promote the growth of the sebaceous glands and sebum production. Hyperseborrhea is the first symptom of acne and can precede its onset by several years.
Excess and/or poor quality sebum makes the skin oily, prevents dead cells from being eliminated properly (formation of microcomedones: blackheads, whiteheads) and provides a favorable environment for the development of pro-inflammatory acne bacteria (formation of inflammatory red spots).
Oily skin doesn't need to be hydrated
FALSE - Hydrating your skin is essential even if you have oily skin
However, you should choose a hydrating product with a light texture such as a mattifying cream that immediately absorbs excess sebum thanks to "blotting powders".
The sun is good for oily skin
TRUE and FALSE - UV rays have a beneficial effect on oily and acne-prone skin
But improvement in skin condition is only temporary. Beware of the rebound effect after sun exposure and increased sebum production and spots.
To prevent this, the skin should be protected with a non-comedogenic sun care product. And you should always avoid intense sun exposure.
WHAT’S THE RIGHT SKIN CARE ROUTINE FOR ME?
Combination, oily or acne-prone skin have the same hydration needs as any other type of skin and is just as sensitive.
Avoid stripping your skin because irritation increases sebum production, resulting in more blemishes.
Wash your hands with soap and water before applying any product so as not to contaminate the skin with "bad" bacteria.
3 easy steps for silky smooth skin!
1) GENTLE CLEANSING- In the morning: use a foaming gel both morning and evening on damp skin, to gently cleanse the face (and body)
- In the evening: using a cotton pad, cleanse your oily skin with a purifying lotion . This will ensure your skin is lovely and fresh and your pores are tightened when you wake up in the morning.
- In the morning, opt for a day cream that is both hydrating and mattifying thanks to absorbent powders and sebo-reducing active ingredients. Its fluid texture should be applied as a light film on the face. Apply your product morning and evening, to mattify combination to oily skin. Use your product on its own, or just before foundation.
At night before going to sleep, apply a purifying mask, to be used once or twice a week to absorb impurities, exfoliate and remove oily skin. Leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing.
