Essential oils to fight against hair loss
Whatever the cause of your hair loss, it is essential to strengthen your hair and activate the blood circulation of your scalp. Essential oils, concentrated in active molecules, can be used for this purpose. Which ones should you choose? How should they be used? Discover all our advice.
Fighting hair loss with essential oils
Looking for a natural hair loss treatment? You can turn to essential oils. These liquid extracts, obtained from raw materials of plant origin, are highly concentrated in active ingredients and have many properties. Some essential oils have useful effects in the prevention and treatment of hair loss. Here are some examples:
- Grapefruit essential oil and ginger essential oil, known for their toning action;
- Rosemary essential oil with cineole, with revitalizing and balancing properties;
- Bay of Saint Thomas essential oil, with stimulating virtues.
Depending on the type of hair loss, you should choose toning essential oils to stimulate hair growth in the case of reactional hair loss, or stimulating essential oils to activate blood circulation in the case of androgenetic alopecia. In the case of baldness, essential oils cannot make hair grow back, but they can limit its progression.
Vegetable oils, ideal for diluting essential oils that are often irritating to the scalp, act in synergy to stimulate, tone and nourish the hair. Castor oil is sometimes recommended to treat baldness, but beware of false promises. At the stage of baldness, it is not possible to make the hair grow back. Castor oil, rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, can be used in cases of alopecia for its nutritive and protective effect.
For an optimal anti-hair loss effect of essential oils, dilute 3 to 5 drops of essential oil in a spoonful of vegetable oil (for a dilution of about 20%) and apply this mixture by massaging the scalp gently with light circular movements from the back of the head to the front. This massage is best done 1 hour before shampooing.
However, be careful when using essential oils on certain people: they are not recommended for pregnant women and children under 6 years old. Always follow the precautions for use indicated, and seek advice from health professionals.
Atlas cedar essential oil to treat hair loss
The Atlas cedar is a large tree native to North Africa. Its essential oil is extracted from the wood of the tree. It is traditionally used for its soothing, toning and decongesting properties. Today, it is known and recognized for its rebalancing effect on oily hair and its stimulating action on the blood circulation of the scalp.
All these activities make it a particularly interesting essential oil in the context of hair loss, and particularly androgenetic alopecia. This type of chronic hair loss is often associated with an excess of sebum, under the influence of androgenic hormones, and a deterioration of blood microcirculation around the hair follicles.
Atlas Cedar essential oil is irritating to the scalp, so it is advisable to dilute it in a vegetable oil before any skin application: dilute 3 to 5 drops of Atlas Cedar essential oil in a spoonful of vegetable oil and apply to the scalp, by massage, one hour before shampooing. In case of scalp irritation, take a break from applications for a few days.
Always follow the precautions for use and ask a health professional for advice before use.
